Henri Bacry

Henri Bacry (* 1928 in Algiers, † 2010) was a French mathematical and theoretical physicists.

Bacry 1962 in Algiers doctorate at the local Faculté des Sciences ( forerunner of the University ), where he was an assistant. He was a mathematics teacher at the Lycée Bugeaud in Algiers and in 1969 professor at the Faculté des Sciences in Marseille. 1966/67, he was at the Institute for Advanced Study, and he was a guest scientist at CERN. and was a professor at the University of Aix -Marseille ( Université de la Méditerranée ) at the Centre for Theoretical Physics of the University and the CNRS.

He dealt with theoretical particle physics, in particular by the use of group theoretical methods (such as the representation theory of the Poincaré group ), but also with optics, solid state physics and statistical mechanics. He also wrote a book on group theory in geometry.

In 1972 he founded the International Colloquium on Group Theoretical Methods in Physics.
