Henri Bosco

Henri Bosco ( born November 16, 1888 in Avignon, † May 4, 1976 in Nice ) was a French poet, novelist and YA author.

Life

Henri Bosco was born in 1888 in the Rue Carreterie # 3 in Avignon, where his father worked as a stonemason, luthier and tenor. From the age of three, the family moved to rural Lourmarin in Provence.

After studying classical philology and Italian in Avignon, Grenoble and Florence Bosco taught at the University of Belgrade, later in Grenoble and Naples. From 1931 to 1955 Bosco lived in Rabat, where he founded the Moroccan Alliance Française.

Henri Bosco wrote to the bucolic thirty - fantastic novels along the lines of Nodier, Alain- Fournier and Jean Giono, where he brought his romantic and mystical world view expressed. Provence is in Arcadia, Paradise Lost. He also wrote several Eclogues. His youth books are classics of their genre in France.

The 1945 winner of the Prix Renaudot novel Le Mas Théotime ( " The Court Theotime " ) is today best known book of the author.

Henri Bosco's grave is located in Lourmarin, at the foot of the Luberon.

Theme and style

Central theme of the works of Bosco is the exploration of the human soul in search of paradise. Children plays a special role. Bosco used for this purpose in addition to easy-to- surface layer and an action fessendelnen a dense network of symbols and references, " whose decryption only releases the deeper meaning of the story". Through the combination of opposites, he also tried mentally explore the inherent divergent worldviews.
