The Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport ( IATA: OTP, ICAO: LROP; Rumanian Henri Coandă Aeroportul iNTernational Bucureşti. ) Is before Baneasa the larger of the two international airports of the Romanian capital Bucharest. He is the main airport of the country and serves as a hub for the national carrier TAROM.

History

The airport dates back to a 1940 opened airbase of the Luftwaffe. After the end of World War II, the Romanian Air Force took over in 1944 was extended to 1200 m airstrip. From 1965 worked on the reconstruction of the military airfield to a civil airport. For this purpose, the sheet was 08 /26 extended to 3500 m and from 1968 conducted the first international flights. Car: The airport is located 20 km north of downtown. The national road DN1 there leads; to a Highway ( A3) has been built since 2004.

Taxi: From the airport taxi fixed prices are a company ( "Fly" ) to the city center (2008: 3,30 lei = 1 euro per km, Distance from the center about 20 km). It also offer other taxis their services, however, these are usually much more expensive (eg 8 lei per km ) or take fixed prices (2007: 60-80 EUR ).
