Henri Dutilleux
Henri Dutilleux ( born January 22, 1916 in Angers, † May 22, 2013 in Paris) was a French composer.
Life and work
After studying music at the Paris Conservatoire from 1933 to 1938, he worked for the radio, and taught from 1961 at the École Normale de Musique and from 1970 at the Paris Conservatory.
His music draws on the tradition of Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, and Albert Roussel. He became famous in 1959 with his second symphony Le Double. His 1964 orchestral piece premiered Métaboles was seen as a contribution to the musical avant-garde in terms of the extension of current forms of expression. He was an innovator of the lyrical form, and his compositions are inspired by all contemporary art forms.
Invited by Walter Fink, he was composer in 2006, the 16th annual composer's portrait of the Rheingau Musik Festival.
Henri Dutilleux was married since 1946 with pianist Geneviève Joy ( 1919-2009 ).
