Henri François Pittier

Henri Pittier alias Henri François de Fabrega Pittier (* August 13 1857 in Bex, † January 27, 1950 in Caracas ) was a naturalist and biologist with a focus Neotropics. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Pittier ".

Henri Pittier is one of the greatest naturalists of Switzerland. He conducted research in particular in the Alpine cantons of Vaud, tropical Costa Rica, the Panama Canal and in Venezuela, his last home.

To him, the first and great national park was named in honor of Venezuela ( Parque Nacional Henri Pittier ) and the living there Pittier Fish rat ( Ichthyomys pittieri ) and the Brillantsalmler ( Moenkhausia pittieri ) bear his name.
