Henri Lavedan

Henri Léon Emile Lavedan ( born April 9, 1859 in Orléans, † September 12, 1940 in Paris) was a French writer and journalist.

Life

The son of the journalist Léon Lavedan studied in Paris for a year law before he devoted himself entirely to writing. He wrote articles for the magazines L' Echo de Paris, Le Figaro and Gil Blas, which later appeared in several volumes than books. His first success as a playwright was the four-act comedy Une famille, which was premiered in 1890 at the Théâtre -Français, and earned him the Prix Toirac the Académie française.

When his most important pieces are Le Prince d' Aurec (UA 1892 at the Théâtre du Vaudeville ), Le Marquis de Priola (1902 at the Théâtre -Français ) and the drama Le Duel, which was premiered in 1905 at the Comédie - Française. Several of his pieces were also filmed, so Catherine by Mario Caserini ( Caterina, 1921) and Le Duel by Pierre Fresnay ( 1939). For L' assassinat du duc de Guise (film by André Calmette and Charles Le Bargy, 1908), he wrote the scenario. He has also written several novels and short stories.

Lavedan was awarded the Commander of the Legion of Honour. In 1898, he was the successor of Henri Meilhac member of the Académie française.
