Henri Le Sidaner

Henri Le Sidaner ( born August 7, 1862 in Port Louis, Mauritius, † July 16, 1939 in Paris) was a French painter.

Life

Le Sidaner was the son of a ship's captain. After the war in 1870 /71 Le Sidaner family returned to France and settled in Dunkirk ( Nord ) down. There was Le Sidaner by the history painter Alexandre Desmit his first art lessons. With its support Le Sidaner was recorded in Paris in the spring of 1882 at the École des Beaux -Arts (EBA ) and was, amongst others, Student of Alexandre Cabanel.

By Cabanel support Le Sidaner was soon admitted also to the large annual exhibitions of the Paris Salon. Le Sidaner met the taste of the time and was soon able to demonstrate artistic as well as financial success. In addition to the exhibitions of the Salon, where he now attended regularly, he was able to multiply in the galleries of Henri Petit (Paris) and the Goupil Galleries ( London) exhibit.

He allowed himself traveled extensively to London, New York, Rome and Venice; but also artistically delightful area of ​​France ( Normandy coast, Pyrenees, Brittany, etc.) he visited repeatedly.

For painting he retired again and again back to Gerberoy ( Oise ).

Reception

Le Sidaner and his art has been appreciated by Marcel Proust. In the fourth volume of his work In Search of Lost Time ( Sodom and Gomorrah ), a collector used large sums of money to acquire works of Le Sidaners.
