Henri Manguin

Henri Manguin ( born March 23, 1874 in Paris, † September 25, 1949 in Saint- Tropez) was a French painter. He is assigned to the circle of the " Fauves ".

Life and work

With fifteen years Manguin cancels his education in order to pursue entirely to painting. In 1894 he is recorded as "Free " in the studio of Gustave Moreau, where Henri Matisse and Albert Marquet are his classmates.

The Cézanne and van Gogh exhibitions devoted in 1901 led him to exploit the forces of pure color. In 1902 he presented the first time at the Salon des Independants. In the summer of 1905 he lived in Saint- Tropez. In the Salon d' Automne of that year show the five exhibited in Room VII images at the same time a stormy and directly expressive outburst of colors. The following year, acquires Ambroise Vollard not less than one hundred fifty paintings from him and the following year he devoted Druet first solo exhibition.

1908 Manguin travels with his friend Marquet to Italy. He looks similar to his friend Marquet, in the ports of Brittany and Normandy, on motives.
