Henri Richard

Joseph Henri Richard ( * February 29, 1936 in Montreal, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who played as a center from 1955 to 1975 with the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League.

Career

After a good junior career with the Montreal Junior Canadiens of the younger brother of Maurice " The Rocket " Richard came to the 1955/56 season also to the Montreal Canadiens. Similar to his brother, he quickly got the nickname "Pocket Rocket".

The team was dominant at that time in the NHL and took five consecutive Stanley Cup. In the season 1957/58 he led with 52 submissions to the NHL. He was to be found in most years in the top 10 scorers the NHL. In the second half of the 1960s he won again four times with the Canadiens to the Cup. On the way to the Stanley Cup in 1966, he scored in the last game against the Detroit Red Wings after 2:20 the extension of the winning goal.

In 1971 he was captain of his club. He played at that time in a row with Claude Larose and Réjean Houle. In his career he won the Stanley Cup, more often than any other player in the history of the sport eleven times.

He always wore the number 16, which is now no longer available from the Montréal Canadiens. In 1979, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
