Henri Theil

Henri Theil ( born October 13, 1924 in Amsterdam, † 20 August 2000) was a Dutch econometrician.

Part received his academic training at the University of Amsterdam. At the Erasmus University Rotterdam, he was the successor of Jan Tinbergen. Later he taught at the University of Chicago and at the University of Florida.

Henri Theil is best known for the Theil index, an entropy measure to indicate the unequal distribution of income and wealth, for example. In addition to the Gini coefficient, the Theil index of inequality of the most common measures.
