Career

Already in 2000 NHL Entry Draft was considered as 205 Henrik Lundqvist from the NHL New York Rangers club in the seventh round, however, remained for the time being in Sweden. He played until 2005 at the Swedish top club and several times Swedish champion Frölunda HC of Gothenburg and was there three times in a row as the best goalkeeper in the Elitserien Trofé with the Honkens and once awarded the Guldhjälmen as MVP.

Only in the 2005/06 season took the New Yorker their true option on him and he could quickly prevail in the NHL. As the Rangers goalkeeper he came to the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, where his team, also thanks to its good performance in the final against Finland, for the second time after 1994 Olympic champion could be. Also the rest of the season in the NHL was relatively positive, as he entered with the Rangers in the playoffs, but already failed in the first round. But a special honor came to Lundqvist. He was for the Vezina Trophy, which is awarded to the most outstanding goalkeeper of the season, nominated. It was the first time in over ten years that a rookie managed this.

In the season 2006/ 07 he was able to continue the good performances of the previous year. In the playoffs, he reached with the Rangers the second round and he made his first shutout in the playoffs. Once again, he was nominated for the Vezina Trophy as the best goalkeeper, but again he could not win it. In February 2008, the New York Rangers extended his contract for another six years to keep him long term on Broadway.

At the Olympic Games in 2014 he won the silver medal with the Swedish national team.

Henrik Lundqvist's twin brother Joel denied on December 4, 2006, his first NHL game for the Dallas Stars.
