Henry A. Houston

Henry Aydelotte Houston (* July 10, 1847 in Dagsboro, Delaware, † April 5, 1925 in Milford, Delaware ) was an American politician. Between 1903 and 1905 he represented the State of Delaware in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Henry Houston attended the common schools and the Newark Academy, from which the present-day University of Delaware emerged. After his studies, Houston worked in agriculture. In 1872 he moved temporarily to Missouri. Three years later he returned to Delaware and settled in Milford. During the next five years, Houston worked as a teacher; thereafter he was engaged in trade. In the meantime, he was a member of the school board in Sussex County.

Houston was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1902 he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he Republican L. Heisler Ball replaced on March 4, 1903. In the elections next ball is still William A. Byrne had applied for the Republican Party. So that the Republicans had two candidates who each took their voices and Houston allowed the election victory. Since he did not run in 1904, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1905.

After the end of his time in Congress, Houston worked in wood processing and in banking. Politically, he has taken no further offices. He died on 5 April 1925 in Milford and was buried in Millsboro.
