Henry B. Eyring

Henry Bennion Eyring ( born May 31, 1933, Princeton, New Jersey) is first counselor to the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints.

Eyring is the second of three sons of the theoretical chemist Henry Eyring and his wife Mildred, nee Bennion. With his wife, Kathleen, née Johnson, he has six children.

Eyring studied at the University of Utah and then acquired a Ph.D. in economics at Harvard University. From 1971 to 1977 he was president of Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho (now BYU-Idaho ) and served from September 1980 to April 1985 and from September 1992 to January 2005 as agent for the Education of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints (CES ). On April 6, 1985, he was appointed to the position of Second Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric. On 3 October 1992 he was appointed to the first Quorum of the Seventy and ordained on 6 April 1995 on the Apostles.

After the death of James E. Faust, second counselor to President Gordon B. Hinckley, Eyring was appointed on 6 October 2007 this place. After the death of President Hinckley chose him his successor, Thomas S. Monson, his first counselor. In this office he was confirmed by the entire church membership at the General Meeting on April 5, 2008.
