Henry B. Steagall

Henry Bascom Steagall ( born May 19, 1873 in Clopton, Dale County, Alabama, † November 22, 1943 in Washington, DC) was an American lawyer and politician (Democratic Party).

Career

Henry Bascom Steagall visited the school community and the Southeast Alabama Agricultural School in Abbeville. He graduated in 1893 at the Law Faculty of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He was admitted as a lawyer in the same year and then started in Ozark (Alabama ) to practice. Then he worked 1902-1908 as a Solicitor of Dale County. He was also the 1907-1914 Public Prosecutor at the 3rd Judicial District.

Steagall also pursued a political career. He was 1906 and 1907 a member of the House of Representatives from Alabama over the years. In addition, he was between 1906 and 1910 a member of the State Democratic Executive Committee. Steagall took 1912 as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in part. He was elected to the 64th U.S. Congress and re-elected in the subsequent fourteen U.S. Congresses. He was in the U.S. House of Representatives from March 4, 1915 until his death in 1943 in Washington, DC During this time, he had presided over the Committee on Banking and Currency ( 72 to 78 U.S. Congress ). He was Miteinreicher the Glass-Steagall Act of 1932.
