Henry Bathurst, 2nd Earl Bathurst

Henry Bathurst, 2nd Earl Bathurst PC KC ( born May 20, 1714 London, † August 6, 1794 in Oakley Grove, Gloucestershire ) was a British lawyer, politician and Lord Chancellor ( 1771-1778 ).

Life

Henry Bathurst was the eldest son of Allen Bathurst, 1st Earl Bathurst ( 1684-1775 ) and his cousin ( second degree ) Lady Catherine Apsley ( 1688-1768 ), daughter of Sir Peter Apsley. Until 1730 he attended Balliol College, Oxford University. Between 1735 and 1754 he was a Member of Parliament ( Tory ) in the House of Cirencester in Gloucestershire. An acknowledgment by the Crown and the courts got Henry Bathurst, where he 's Counsel (King 's Counsel ) was chosen ( 1746 ). From 1771 he was a member of the Privy Council ( The Lords of Her Majesty 's Most Honourable Privy Council ). At the same time he was of George III. , At the proposal of Prime Minister Frederick North, 2nd Earl of Guilford, was appointed Lord High Chancellor ( 1771-78 ). Between 1779 and 1782, he was Lord President of the Council.

Family

In 1754 he married Anne James. She died in 1758. From his second marriage with Lady Tryphena Scawen ( 1730-1807 ) was a son, Henry Bathurst, 3rd Earl Bathurst ( 1762-1834 ) produced.
