Henry County (Georgia)

The Henry County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. Administrative office ( County Seat) is McDonough, which was named after Captain Thomas Macdonough, the victor over the British on Lake Champlain in the British -American War of 1812.

Geography

The County is located in the central northwestern Georgia and has an area of 840 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers of water surface are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Rockdale County, Newton County, Butts County, Spalding County, Clayton County and DeKalb County.

History

Henry County was formed on 15 May 1821 as the 50th County of Georgia from the land of the Creek Indians. It was named after Patrick Henry.
