Henry County (Iowa)
The Henry County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010, the County had 20,145 inhabitants and a population density of 17.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mount Pleasant.
Geography
The County is located almost in the extreme southeast of Iowa, approximately 35 km to the east is from the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Illinois. In the south of the state of Missouri is approximately 40 km away. The Henry County has an area of 1131 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface. History
The Henry County was on December 7, 1836 the territory of the former Wisconsin - formed territory. It was named either after General James Henry Dougherty or after General Henry Dodge.
1839 started the construction of the first courthouse, which was completed in 1840. 1871, the construction of the second courthouse was begun and completed in the third courthouse on 4 August 1914, which is still used as such.
