Henry Gabriels

Henry Gabriel ( born October 6, 1838 in Wannegem - Lede, East Flanders Province, Belgium, † April 23, 1921 in Ogdensburg, New York, USA) was Bishop of Ogdensburg.

Life

Henry Gabriel attended school in Oudenaarde. Gabriel studied philosophy at the seminary in Saint- Nicolas and Catholic theology at the seminary in Ghent. He received on 21 September 1861, the sacrament of Holy Orders. 1864 acquired Henry Gabriel's at the Université catholique de Louvain, a licentiate in Catholic theology.

Henry Gabriel was sent by the Bishop of Ghent, Louis -Joseph Delebecque, in support of the Archbishop of New York in the United States. In October 1864 he was professor of dogmatic theology at St. Joseph 's Seminary in Troy, and from 1870 also for Church history. From 1871 to 1892 was Gabriel rector of St. Joseph 's Seminary.

On January 15, 1892, he was named Pope Leo XIII. Bishop of Ogdensburg. The Archbishop of New York, Michael Augustine Corrigan, donated to him on 5 May of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Albany, Francis McNeirny, and the Bishop of Syracuse, Patrick Anthony Ludden.
