Henry H. Schwartz

Henry Herman Schwartz ( * May 18, 1869 in Fort Recovery, Mercer County, Ohio, † April 24, 1955 in Casper, Wyoming ) was a U.S. Representative (Democratic Party), who represented the state of Wyoming in the U.S. Senate.

Born on a farm Henry Schwartz received his education in Mercer County and in Cincinnati. After that, he was from 1892 to 1894 in Fort Recovery, and from 1894 to 1896 in Sioux Falls ( South Dakota) employed in the newspaper industry. He then studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1895 and commenced practice as a lawyer in Sioux Falls.

His political career began Schwartz as a deputy in the House of Representatives from South Dakota 1896-1897. Thereafter, he was employed in a leading position at the District Office, which took him until 1907 to Spokane (Washington) and Helena (Montana). This year he was also briefly as a special assistant to the U.S. attorney general worked before to 1910 the Field Service of the Land Office in Washington DC, he initiated.

1915, Schwartz then to Wyoming. At home in Casper, he was president of the Education Committee; in the same position he was before the high school authority in Natrona County 1928-1934. In 1930 he wrote his first application for a seat in the U.S. Senate, but was defeated by Republican Robert D. Carey. After he had listened to the Senate from Wyoming from 1933 to 1935, he appeared again at the election against Carey and this time was successful, after which he entered the Senate in Washington on January 3, 1937. There he remained until January 3, 1943; in the attempt to re-election, he failed on Republican Edward V. Robertson. Following U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt appointed him to the National Mediation Board, its member he remained until 1947; then he returned to Casper, where he worked as a lawyer until his death in April 1955.
