Henry Hathaway

Henry Hathaway ( born March 13, 1898 in Sacramento, California, † 11 February 1985 in Hollywood) was an American film director.

Life

Hathaway learned the occupation of the director as an assistant to directors like Josef von Sternberg and Victor Fleming. In the 1920s, he was an assistant with the legendary epic film Ben Hur. Fleming, he assisted in the Erstverfilmung the Western The Virginian, the base was later for the TV series The Men from Shiloh Ranch. Von Sternberg, he assisted in 1930 in Morocco, the first movie by Marlene Dietrich in the U.S.. In 1932, he was then for the first time on their own responsibility directing and became one of the most successful directors of Western. Hathaway was nominated for an Oscar in 1936. After 1945, he turned some of the best Hollywood thriller of the Black Series. In the 1960s he led the genre of the Western again to blossom with films that are now considered classics of the genre.

In 1960 he was honored with a star on the Walk of Fame. In 1967 he was honored as a director with the Golden Laurel.

He was buried in the cemetery "Holy Cross Cemetery " in Culver City, California.
