Henry III, Lord of Waldeck

Henry III. of Waldeck (c. 1225/1230, † 1267 ) was the eldest son of Count Adolf I of Waldeck († 1270) from his first marriage with Sophie ( † 1254 ).

Henry was already the lifetime of his father's co-regent of the reasoned from this county Waldeck, but died three years before his father. His brother Widukind had become a clergyman, was from 1265 to 1269 Bishop of Osnabrück, and had died on November 18, 1269. Adolf's successor as I. Graf von Waldeck thus was Henry's son Adolf II

Heinrich supported, together with his father and his brother Adolf Widukind, the Landgrave Henry I of Hesse in its successful fight with Simon Bishop of Paderborn and the Abbot Henry III. of Corvey for the domination in northern Hesse region bordering Westphalia.

Henry was married to Matilda of Cuyk - Arnsberg (* 1235, † after August 13, 1298 ), daughter of Count Gottfried III. of Arnsberg and heiress of Wewelsburg. The couple had the following children:

  • Adolf II (* 1250, † December 13, 1302 ), 1270-1276 Count of Waldeck, after abdication clerics, from 1301 Bishop of Liège
  • Gottfried ( † May 14, 1324 ), 1304-1324 Bishop of Minden
  • Otto I († November 11, 1305, murdered in captivity ), from 1276 to 1305, succeeding his brother Count of Waldeck
  • Adelheid († 1339/1342 ), ∞ Simon I. zur Lippe († 1344)
