Henry IV, Duke of Mecklenburg

Henry IV, Duke of Mecklenburg (* 1417, † March 9, 1477 ) was from 1422 to 1477, Duke of Mecklenburg.

Life

Mecklenburg called Henry IV, because of his lavish lifestyle and the corresponding obesity Heinrich thickness, was born as the son of Duke John IV of Mecklenburg Mecklenburg and Catherine of Saxe-Lauenburg.

He ruled after the death of his father and Albrecht V, to 1436 under regency of his mother, Catherine, along with his brother, John V. († 1442 ).

He married in May 1432, the daughter of the Margrave of Brandenburg Friedrich I. Dorothea.

By the death of William, Prince of Werle in 1436, with the line Werle extinct in the male line, the principality became part of the Duchy of Mecklenburg. After 1471 also died Ulrich II of Mecklenburg [- Stargard ], Mecklenburg was united again under one ruler.
