Henry of Oyta

Heinrich Totting of Oyta ( * ca 1330 Altenoythe, † May 12, 1397 in Vienna) was an eminent theologian and philosopher in the 14th century.

Life and career

Heinrich Totting of Oyta ( in the literature: Henrici de Oyta, Hainricus de Oyta, grove rich ) studied in Prague and taught first in Prague, Erfurt and Paris. As Henry of Long Stone, who was also active at the University of Paris, was Heinrich Totting of Oyta of Duke Albrecht III. his chancellor, Berthold of Wehingen be won for the University of Vienna.

He is considered the co-founder of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna ( founded on February 21, 1384 ).

He died on 12 May 1397 and was buried in St. Stephen's Cathedral, first in the choir at St. John Apostle altar, and later his grave site was moved to the Chapel of St. Catherine.

Among the pupils of Heinrich Totting of Oyta include Conrad III. Soltau, John Marie Werder and Nicholas of Dinkelsbühl.
