Henry of Schweinfurt

Henry of Schweinfurt ( * before 980; † September 18, 1017 ) was Margrave of Schweinfurt.

Life

Heinrich, also called " Hezilo ", was the son of Margrave Berthold, Count of eastern Franconia and the Eilika, born of Walbeck and founder of the Benedictine monastery of Schweinfurt. He was 981 Graf at the bottom Naab, 983 Count on the lower Altmühltherme, 994 Margrave in the Bavarian Nordgau and 1002 Graf Radenzgau.

In the year 1002 supported Henry Duke Henry IV of Bavaria to the election of the king against the Margrave Ekkehard of Meissen and I. Duke Hermann II of Swabia under the promise of being able to succeed Henry of Bavaria. As the new king of his promise but not cashed, Henry of Schweinfurt in Schweinfurt allied feud with some relatives and Boleslaw the Brave, Duke of Poland, who had fallen out with Henry II, as well as Bruno, the brother of the king.

The power base of the so-called " Margrave of Schweinfurt " founded on extensive county rights in Nordgau, in Radenzgau and Volkfeldgau, which makes political backbone was among other things an extensive system of fortresses. The fighting, handed down by the contemporary Rapporteur Thietmar of Merseburg, related, among other things, the castles Ammerthalstrasse, Creußen, Kronach and Schweinfurt.

The revolt was militarily unsuccessful. The duke of Bavaria gave Henry II to Henry of Luxembourg, his brother, and thus strengthened the royal power in the East Franks. Whether Count Henry County lost all rights and imperial fief, is controversial. After his imprisonment on Giebichenstein he was pardoned in 1004 and probably got a major part of his property, including owned by Henry II back.

Before 1017 can be a Heinrich Graf as an der Pegnitz, 1015 when Count prove to the upper Naab. Henry of Schweinfurt died on 18 September 1017. He was the Bishop of Würzburg Henry, the first bishop of Bamberg Eberhard and the bishop of Trieste Richulf (also Rikulf ) buried on the north side of the church of the castle Schweinfurt.

Family and Descendants of Heinrich

He married before 1009 Gerberga ( † after 1036 ), daughter of Otto von Henneberg ( Count in the grave field) or of Count Heribert in Kinziggau ( Conradines ). With her he had at least three children:

  • Otto of Schweinfurt, † September 28, 1057, from 1048 Duke of Swabia; ∞ 1036 Ermengarde, † married in 1078 before April 29, daughter of the Marquis of Turin and Ulrich Manfred Berta degli Obertenghi, the second marriage in 1058 Count Egbert I of Brunswick, Margrave of Meissen († January 11, 1068 ) ( Brunonen )

  • Burchard, Bishop of Halberstadt

Presumably he had another son, Henry, who is 1021-1043 testifies as Count Pegnitz and 1043 as Graf at the top Naab, and of which it is assumed that he was the progenitor of the counts of Lech Gemuend, Horburg and Graisbach.
