Henry P. Haun

Henry Peter Haun ( born January 18, 1815 to Newtown, Scott County, Kentucky, † June 6, 1860 in Marysville, California ) was an American politician. He represented the state of California in the U.S. Senate.

Life and work

Haun was born near Newtown and attended the local schools. He then studied law at Transylvania University in Lexington. In 1839 he was admitted as a lawyer and began to work in this profession. In 1845 he was prosecutor in Scott County. Later he moved to Clinton County, Iowa Territory and went to live in Hauntown. There he continued to work as a lawyer, but the way operating a distillery, a sawmill and a store. In 1846 he was sent to the Convention on the establishment of the State of Iowa was decided. 1849 Haun moved to Marysville in California. He continued to work as a lawyer and was also active in agriculture. In 1851 he was appointed District Judge in Yuba County, which he remained until 1854.

In 1859, Haun was nominated by the Democratic party to succeed the late U.S. Senator David C. Broderick. When his successor Haun was on November 3, 1859 to March 4, 1860 to the member of the Senate of the United States. He should hold such office until the successor Broderick would be elected in the spring of 1860, which would then complete the remainder of the term. Haun lost this election against Milton Latham. A few months after the Senate election Haun died in Marysville.
