Henry Russell (athlete)

Henry Argue " Hank " Russell ( * December 15, 1904 in Buffalo, NY, † November 9, 1986 in West Chester, Pennsylvania) was an American track and field athlete and Olympic champion.

As a graduate student at Cornell University Russell won the IC4A championships over 100 yards in 1926 and 220 yards in 1925 and 1926. At the IXth. Summer Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928, he retired in the heats of the 100 - meter race from the semi-finals. In the 4 x 100 -meter relay race but he won with his team-mates Frank Wykoff, James Quinn and Charles Borah the team gold medal with a new world record time of 41.0 s, ahead of the teams from Germany ( silver ) and the UK ( bronze).
