Henry S. Benedict

Henry Stanley Benedict ( born February 20, 1878 in Boonville, Cooper County, Missouri, † July 10, 1930 in London, England ) was an American politician. In 1916 and 1917 he represented the State of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1888, Henry Benedict came with his parents to Los Angeles in California, where he attended the public schools. After studying law at the local University of Southern California and his 1910 was admitted as a lawyer in Los Angeles, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1910 and 1914 he was a deputy in the California State Assembly; 1914 to 1916 he was a member of the State Senate.

Following the resignation of Mr William Stephens Benedict was due at the election for the seat tenth of California as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on November 7, 1916. For the regular congressional elections of 1916, he was nominated as the candidate of the Progressive Party for re-election. However, Benedict rejected this nomination, in favor of Republican Henry Z. Osborne. So that he could end the current parliamentary term in Congress only until March 3, 1917.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Henry Benedict again worked as a lawyer. He also went into the banking industry. In the years 1919-1921 he worked for the California Finance; 1921 to 1923 he was a member of the railroad committee of his state. He then practiced as a lawyer again. He died on July 10, 1930 during a visit to the British capital London and was buried in Glendale.
