Henry Samueli

Henry Samueli ( born September 20, 1954 in Buffalo, New York) is co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Broadcom Corporation and philanthropist in Orange County, California. In 2010, Forbes estimated the assets of Samueli to 1.7 billion U.S. dollars. Today he lives in Newport Beach, California.

Life

Samuel parents, Sala and Aron, were Polish Jewish immigrants. They came almost penniless in the United States. Samueli filled the shelves of his family in the liquor store in Los Angeles and joined the Fairfax High School successfully.

Samueli attended UCLA, where he earned his bachelor's degree (1975 ), Master (1976) and Ph.D. (1980 ) took off, all of which were in the range of electrical engineering. His doctoral thesis (dissertation) is entitled " Nonperiodic forced overflow oscillations in digital filters" ( " Non-periodic forced overflow oscillations in digital filters ").

In 1991, while he was still working as a professor at UCLA, Samueli founded his company, Broadcom Corporation, one of his former students, Henry Nicholas. Each invested $ 5,000 and you worked in Nicholas' house in Redondo Beach. This was followed by the move to Irvine. In 1998, Broadcom became a public company, Samueli finished his work as a professor, but at the UCLA Department of Electrical Engineering is his name still on the list of faculty.

In June 2005 he and his wife Susan bought the NHL team franchise Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, today. Anaheim Ducks, by the Walt Disney Company for $ 75 million Samueli also owns the company that operates the city's Honda Center ( home of the Ducks ). The Anaheim Ducks are now (as of end of 2010) worth $ 188 million.

Owned by the Samueli and his wife Susan, won the Anaheim Ducks to the Stanley Cup in 2007.
