Henry Snapp

Henry Snapp (* June 30, 1822 in Livonia, Livingston County, New York, † November 26, 1895 in Joliet, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1871 and 1873 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1825 Henry Snapp moved with his parents to Rochester, where he attended the public schools. Since 1833 he lived in Homer (Illinois), where he continued his schooling. After a subsequent law degree in 1843 and its recent approval as a lawyer in Joliet, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. From 1869 to 1871 he was a member of the Illinois Senate.

Following the resignation of Mr Burton C. Cook Snapp was in the due election for the sixth seat of Illinois as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on December 4, 1871. Since he did not run in 1872, he could only finish the current term in Congress until March 3, 1873. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Henry Snapp again practiced as a lawyer in Joliet, where he died on 26 November 1895. He was the father of Congressman Howard M. Snapp ( 1855-1938 ).
