Henry Stockbridge, Jr.

Henry Stockbridge, Jr. ( born September 18, 1856 in Baltimore, Maryland, † March 22, 1924 ) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1889 and 1891 he represented the state of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Henry Stockbridge attended both public and private schools and then the Williston Academy in Easthampton (Massachusetts ). He then continued his studies until 1877 at Amherst College in Massachusetts continued. After studying law at the University of Maryland and his 1878 was admitted to the bar he began to work in Baltimore in this profession. He was also active in the publishing of the newspaper Baltimore Herald. Since 1882, he acted as a balance tester ( Examiner in equity) in the Supreme Court of Baltimore.

Politically, Stockbridge member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1888 he was in the fourth electoral district of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Isidor Rayner on March 4, 1889. Since he resigned in 1890 to run again, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 4, 1891.

Between 1891 and 1893 Stockbridge was immigration commissioner for the Port of Baltimore. From 1896 to 1911 he was a judge of the Supreme Court of Baltimore, and from 1911 at the Maryland Court of Appeals. He was also a 1907-1920 as regent to the governing body of the University of Maryland. He died on March 22, 1924 in Baltimore, where he was buried in Loudon Park Cemetery.
