Henry Surtees

Henry John Surtees (* February 18, 1991 in Lingfield, Surrey; † July 19, 2009 in London) was a British racing driver and the son of British Formula 1 and motorcycle world champion John Surtees.

Career

After Surtees had their first experience in karting, he began his motorsport career in 2006 in the British Ginetta GT Junior Championship in which he was third in the overall standings at first. The following year he moved to the Monopostosport, where he began his career in the British Formula Formula BMW. With a win, he finished sixth in the overall standings. He also began as a guest in other Formula series. 2008 Surtees went to the British Formula Renault at the start, finishing in twelfth place overall. In addition, the young Brit took on the last race weekend of the British Formula 3 Championship at Donington Park part. As a guest starter in the national class, he won the first race and finished second in the second race.

In 2009 he was promoted to the revived FIA Formula 2 Championship. In the cost- championship he finished, having already once started from pole position, the first race at Brands Hatch in third place.

Death

A day later, on 19 July 2009 Surtees crashed at the second race at Brands Hatch fatal. His propelled before him compatriot Jack Clarke lost in the fast track section Westfield control of his vehicle and crashed into the perimeter wall, with a rear wheel broke, which then jumped the track. Surtees came in a group of several vehicles to the summit because of a document to confirm not curve and was hit by Clarke's wheel at the helm. The accident at Surtees remembered the accident the Austrian Markus Hottinger, who was hit in 1980 with a Formula 2 race by a wheel on the head and had also suffered fatal injuries.
