Henry Tiller

Henry Tiller ( born June 14, 1914 in Trondheim, † January 1, 1999 ) was a Norwegian boxer. He was winner of the silver medal at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin in the middleweight division (then to 72.6 kg body weight).

Career

Amateur career

Henry Tiller began in 1930 when " Bokseklubben " Trondheim with the boxes. He was very well endowed and quickly developed into a technically excellent boxer. In 1931 he was the Norwegian junior champion at lightweight (then to 61.2 kg body weight). In the following years he grew into the middleweight division. In 1935 he won his first Norwegian championship titles in the seniors at middleweight, where he four more added until 1940.

His debut in an international boxing match he gave in 1934 on the occasion of a country fighting Ireland against Norway in Dublin. Countries fighting between individual nations played at that time an important role as they are often offered the only comparisons among athletes of different nations. Large international championships were relatively rare in the 1930s. Other international Boxturniere found not take place. In Dublin Henry Tiller lost in his first international match against the Irish Laurence Flood on points.

In 1936 Henry Tiller was sent to the Olympic Games in Berlin. The Olympic boxing tournament was the first international boxing tournament in which he participated. He started in the middleweight division and won in his first fight on Edward Peltz from South Africa on points. After points, he also won his next fight on Richard Shrimpton from Great Britain, Adolf Baumgarten from Germany and Henryk Chmielewski from Poland and had thus reached the final against Jean Despeaux from France. In a battle balanced decided some better scenes that Despeaux had in the final round, for its benefit. Henry Tiller narrowly lost on points and therefore received the silver medal.

1937 Henry Tiller then also at the European Championships in Milan at the start. There, he won the middleweight about Peter Horak from Austria and Anton Raadik from Estonia on points, but lost in the semifinals against Henryk Chmielewski, so that he did not reach the final. The battle for third place, which was then still be boxing, against the Italians Bruno Zorzenone he could not deny injury and therefore had to settle for 4th place. On December 5, 1937 succeeded Henry Tiller in Oslo in an international match against Norway Poland also revenge for the defeat in the European Championship against Henryk Chmielewski. He won that fight on points.

1938 Henry Tiller won the open in London English middleweight championship with a win over David Peck.

After that he played no international fights more. As an amateur boxer he had in his career, denied 158 fights, 22 of them lost, once he boxed a draw.

Professional career

The professional career of Henry Tiller was limited to four fights won in 1941. She was insignificant compared to his amateur career.
