Henry VIII, Count of Waldeck

Henry VIII (* 1465, † 1513) was Count of Waldeck and the founder of the older Wildunger line of the House of Waldeck. He was at times also Nassauischer governor of the county of Vianden.

Life

Henry was the son of Count Philip I of Waldeck and his wife Johanna of Nassau- Dillenburg. After the early death of his parents, his uncle Phlipp II was initially his guardian.

In 1486 Philip II and Henry VIII split the part of county Waldeck Waldeck with each other. However, the castle and the town of Waldeck should both belong together. Because the castle for two court households was too small, Heinrich 1500 was built on the castle grounds a second housing. In 1487 the two Waldecker Count jointly founded the Franciscan convent in Korbach.

Henry married in 1492 Anastasia of Runkel, daughter and heiress of William of Runkel († 1489 ). This part of Isenburg and Wied came into his possession. He called himself Count of Waldeck and Mr. Isenburg to. After the death of his wife in 1503, he sold his possessions to a cousin of his wife, Count Johann III. of Wied. With his wife he had sons Phlipp IV and William.

In 1493 he was appointed by Count Engelbert of Nassau- Dillenburg, an uncle of the mother's family, the governor of the county of Vianden in Luxembourg today.

With the death of Otto IV in 1495, the Count's line died out at the Landau. Their possessions were on the line to Waldeck. To owning it since 1496 came to the battle between Philip II and Henry. Despite the current public peace of the dispute was initially held at gunpoint. It was not until 1498 beat both sides of court, and called on the Imperial Chamber Court newly furnished. In 1507, both sides agreed. After that the towns Korbach, Niederwildungen, Sachsenhausen, Sachsenbergstraße and Freienhagen remained jointly owned. Henry got the town and castle Altwildungen and the associated office. Office, the castle and town of Waldeck were jointly owned. The same is true for lock, office and city Rhoden and the Itter. Overall, Henry's share of the total ownership of the house was about 1/3.

In 1504 Henry and Philip the troops of the Hessian Landgrave Wilhelm II joined with their people, who went along with other on behalf of King Maximilian against the Palatinate to carry out the imperial ban. The two counts were 1505 in the wake of the Landgrave at the Diet of Cologne present. When it attacks some noble gentlemen came against subjects of Henry in 1509, he asked the Landgrave in vain for assistance. The Counts of Waldeck was in 1512 a member of the newly founded association Graf.

After Henry's death, he was buried in the Abbey Church in Marienthal networks.
