Henry W. Barry

Henry W. Barry (* April 1840 in Schoharie County, New York, † June 7, 1875 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1870 and 1875 he represented the third electoral district of the state of Mississippi in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Henry Barry has largely appropriated the academic knowledge itself and then taught at the Locust Grove Academy in Kentucky. During the Civil War he entered the Union army on to brevet brigadier general. He put 1861 in Kentucky regiment with African American soldiers and commanded in the further course of the war temporarily units, which consisted of African Americans.

After retiring from military service in May 1866 Barry studied at Columbian College, now George Washington University, Jura. After his made ​​in 1867 admitted to the bar he began in Columbus (Mississippi) to work in his new profession. Barry was a member of the Republican Party. In 1867 he was a delegate at a meeting to revise the constitution of Mississippi; In 1868 he was elected to the State Senate.

After the resumption of Mississippi to the Union in 1870, Barry was elected in the third district of the state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. There he took a seat, the William Barksdale had left in January 1861. After he was confirmed in the following elections, he could remain between 23 February 1870 and 3 March 1875 Congress. He was chairman of the committee responsible for supervising the expenditure of the Post Ministry. After his retirement from Congress Barry passed away in June of the same year in the capital Washington.
