Henry W. Lord

Henry William Lord ( born March 8, 1821 in Northampton, Massachusetts, † January 25, 1891 in Butte, Montana ) was an American politician. Between 1881 and 1883 he represented the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

After primary school, studied law Henry Lord; He has worked as a lawyer but later. From 1839 he lived in Detroit; four years later he moved on to Pontiac. There he worked in agriculture and trade. After a few years he returned to Detroit. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1861 and 1867 he was American consul in Manchester (England). After returning to Michigan was Lord 1871-1882 Member of the Committee of Public Safety ( State Board of Corrections and Charities ) his state.

In the congressional elections of 1880 Lord in the first election District of Michigan was in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Stoughton Newberry on March 4, 1881. Since he Democrat William C. Maybury defeated in the elections of 1882, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1883.

After his retirement from the House of Representatives Henry Lord of U.S. President Chester A. Arthur to the registration officials at the United States Land Office in Creelsburg (North Dakota) was appointed. He practiced this activity until April 18, 1888. Lord died in a railway accident on 25 January 1891 in the vicinity of Butte and was buried in Detroit.
