Henry William Newlands

Henry William Newlands ( born March 19, 1862 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; † August 9, 1954 in St. Thomas, Ontario ) was a Canadian judge. From 1921 to 1931 he was vice- governor of the province of Saskatchewan.

Biography

After completion of legal studies Newlands moved in 1883, first to Winnipeg, Manitoba, two years later to Prince Albert. Then in the Northwest Territories, where he opened a law office In 1897, he placed himself in the service of the territorial government in Regina and worked as an inspector of property management services, which gave the newly arriving immigrants agricultural land.

1904 Newlands was appointed to the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories, 1907 in those of the Province of Saskatchewan. In 1920 he moved to the court of appeal of the province. Governor General Lord Devonshire sworn Newlands on 18 February 1921 as Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. This representative office he held until March 30, 1931.
