Henry Wylie Norman

Sir Henry Wylie Norman GCB, GCMG, CIE ( born December 2, 1826October 26, 1904 in London) was a British field marshal and governor.

Life

He was the only son of the merchant James Norman and his wife Charlotte, née Wylie.

In 1840 was Norman's father, who had worked as a businessman for several years in Cuba, business partner of a department store in Calcutta, where he was followed by his son and his wife in 1842. There he joined the 17 -year-old British Indian Army. In 1844 he was an officer cadet. He fought in the Second Sikh War and was then called by Baron Clyde as a Major in the campaign against the Afridi. Norman fought in numerous campaigns of 1850-1854 and in the Santal Rebellion 1855-1856.

In 1883 he succeeded Sir Anthony Musgrave as governor of Jamaica. In 1889 he became Governor of Queensland.

In 1902 he was promoted to field marshal.
