Henryk Petrich

Henryk Petrich ( born January 10, 1959 in Łódź) is a former Polish boxer. Petrich was silver medalist at the European Championships in 1987 and the competitions of friendship in 1984 and bronze medalist of the World Championships in 1986 and the Olympics in 1988.

Career

Petrich was Polish champion of the years 1983-1988, 1990 and 1991.

1983 Petrich was middleweight silver medalist at the Military Championships Eastern Bloc countries, where he in the final to Henry Maske, DDR, failed. The following year he was due to the Olympic boycott not participate in the 1984 Olympics, but won in the competitions of friendship after victories over Henry Maske (3:2) and Ján Franek, Czech Republic (5-0 ) and a final defeat by Bernardo Comas, Cuba (4:1).

At the European Championships in 1985 Petrich difference in the first fight against Lotfi Ayed, Sweden ( 3:2 ), from. In the same year he won at the Military Championships of the Soviet bloc, the gold medal with a final victory over Julio Quintana Martínez, Cuba (5-0 ).

In 1986 Petrich at the World Championships and won after beating Zoltan Fuzesy, Hungary (5-0 ), and Jose da Silva, Brazil (5-0 ), and a semi-final defeat against Henry Maske the bronze medal. At the 1988 Olympic Games Petrich started for the first time at an international championship in the light heavyweight and won the bronze medal. He struck Byun Jin Park, South Korea (RSC 2 ), Niels Madsen, Denmark (5-0 ), and Ahmed Elnaggar, Egypt (5-0 ) and lost in the semifinals to eventual Olympic gold medalist Andrew Maynard, USA (AB 3 ).

Petrich finished his career with another win the Military Championships of the Soviet bloc in 1989 and a bronze medal at the Goodwill Games in 1990.
