Henryk Rodakowski

Henryk Rodakowski (also by Henryk Rodakowski; born July 9, 1823 in Lviv, † December 28, 1894 in Kraków ) was a Polish- Austrian painter.

Life

Rodakowski came from a family of lawyers Lemberger. He began law studies at the University of Vienna to study, but at the same time, he studied in the years 1841 to 1845 painting in the studio of Josef Danhauser.

In 1846 he came to Paris to continue his studies in painting at Léon Cogniet. His portrait of General Henryk Dembiński was awarded at the Paris art exhibition with a gold medal. Eugène Delacroix Rodakowskis works in the Parisian press rated high.

In 1861 he married Camilla Blühdorn. The couple had two children.

After a more than 20 - year stay in Paris, he returned to his homeland. He settled first in Good Palachitsche at Stanislawow down, then in Bortniki in Chodorow, came back to Vienna and finally settled in Krakow.

Rodakowski 1893 elected Chairman of the Krakow Society of Friends of Fine Arts. On 24 December 1894 he was appointed director of the Cracow School of Art, but died unexpectedly four days later.

Rodakowski was awarded the Cross of the French Legion of Honour.
