Henryk Samsonowicz

Henryk Samsonowicz ( born January 23, 1930 in Warsaw) is a Polish historian.

Henryk Samsonowicz is the son of the geologist January Samsonowicz. In 1950 he finished his studies at the Warsaw University. Since 1950 he has worked continuously at the University of Warsaw. In 1954 he received his doctorate. His habilitation was 1960. Since 1971, he was Associate Professor. From 1975 to 1978 he was director of the Historical Institute of Warsaw University. Since 1980 full professor. From 1979 to 1984 he was Dean of the Faculty of Humanities. In the 1980s, he was instrumental in the success of the Solidarity movement. From 1980 to 1981 he was Rector of the University of Warsaw and reform 1989-1990 Minister of Education, the first non-communist government. In the latter role, he led on 1 September 1990 by means of a service manual ( internal authority of the Directive ) religious instruction in the public schools, where the procedure did not comply with the law.

His research focuses on the economic, social, mentality, urban and political history. Samsonowicz was awarded the 2009 Prize for historians of the city of Münster. With the price of his life work and his earnings to a present- oriented historiography was honored for the European Middle Ages.
