History

In the 19th and early 20th century located coal camps were massively reduced here. As a transport path of the Canal de Mons à Condé was built, the river groves, following, on the one hand to Mons, on the other hand, led by Condé- sur- l'Escaut, where it flows into the Scheldt. In the 1960s, the section was shut down after Mons and later replaced by the A7 motorway. The water transport has since settled on the Grand Nimy - Blaton - Péronnes, which was connected with POMMEROEUL with the old channel. But even this shipping lane is blocked on the French side since 1995.
