Hentern

Hentern is a municipality in the Trier -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Kell am See. Hentern is a nationally recognized tourist.

Geography

The place is located in the western Hunsrück Nature Park Saar -Hunsrück in the valley of the Ruwer. To Hentern includes the residential places in Füllcheswies and Steinbachweier.

The neighboring communities of Hentern are Zerf, Baldringen, Vierherrenborn, Paschel, Schömerich and shillings.

History

Hentern was inhabited in Roman times. About a kilometer north of the church ruins of a Roman house were found, a so-called villa rustica.

Hentern was first documented in the year 1000.

The place belonged to the late 18th century to the Official Saar castle in the Electorate of Trier.

After the 1792 French Revolutionary troops had occupied the left bank of the Rhine and incorporated after the peace of Campo Formio ( 1797) in French territory. In 1798, the then new French administrative structure was introduced, Hentern belonged to the Canton Saar castle of the Department of the Saar. Unlike the rest of the territory of the left bank of the Rhine, the Canton Saar castle was initially allocated to the Congress of Vienna ( 1815), Austria. In the Second Peace of Paris, Austria joined with effect from July 1, 1816, among other areas, the canton to the Kingdom of Prussia from.

Coat of arms

Culture and sights

The Catholic parish church of St. George was built in 1835-1856. The Romanesque west front dates from the early 13th century.

In Hentern there are two old water mills that have survived until today: the Kramesmühle and Jägermühle. The Kramesmühle 's traditions after a spell in the 16th century mill in the Abbey of Saint Matthias. Its present appearance dates from essentially by a conversion around 1800.

In Hentern is the only level meter of the Ruwer, which was established on 1 October 1969. He belongs to the flood warning center Mosel and its catchment area is 102.3 km ².

Traffic

Hentern is located on the disused railway Hochwald and had a breakpoint. The passenger traffic was stopped on 31 May 1981 the freight on 2 June 1991. On 10 August 1998, the line was shut down and dismantled. Today the former railway line is used by the Ruwer -Hochwald - bike trail.
