Heo Nanseolheon

Heo Chohui (* 1563 in Gangneung, † March 19, 1589 ), was a Korean poet and writer, painter and artist, during the Joseon Dynasty. Her stage name was Nanseolheon ( 난설헌 ,兰 雪 轩) and Nanseoljae ( 난 설재 ,兰 雪 斋). She was the older sister of Heo Gyun and younger sister of Heo Pong. She came from a family of politicians with conservative Confucian views, but took over the liberal views of her two brothers Heo Heo Gyun and Pong. For this she was cut from her father and her husband's family.

Life

Heo Chohui married sometime Seongnip Kim, the son of an official. Time and specific circumstances of this marriage are not known. How are obtained from records of Heo Gyun out, but the marriage was not happy. Her husband to be unfaithful regularly, and also the law was the confident demeanor and unconventional views of Heo Chohui an eyesore. They had two children, a boy and a girl, who soon died in consecutive years. Within a year after the death of her older brother Heo Pong, in exile, Heo Chohui died on 19 March 1589 at the age of 27 years.
