Herb Magidson

Herbert " Herb" ( * January 7, 1906 in Braddock, Pennsylvania, † January 2, 1986 in Beverly Hills, California ) A. Magidson was an American lyricist of film music, the Oscar for best song received at the Academy Awards 1935.

Biography

Magidson began his career as a songwriter in 1929 in the movie The Time, the Place and the Girl, and wrote in his career, the lyrics for nearly 80 films.

In 1935 he was awarded with the composer Con Conrad the Oscar for Best Song for the song "The Continental " from the movie Dance with me! ( Divorce on American, 1934).

He later received additional nominations for the Oscar in this category namely, first in 1944 with the composer Jimmy McHugh for " Say a Prayer for the Boys Over There" from the film Hers to Hold (1943 ), on the other hand in 1946 with the composer Allie Wrubel for the song "I'll Buy That Dream " from Sing Your Way Home (1945 ).

His most famous songs were "Singin ' in the Bathtub ," " Gone With The Wind ", " Conchita, Marquita, Lolita, Pepita, Rosita, Juanita Lopez ," " Enjoy Yourself It's Later Than You Think" and " Who Shot Ya ". Some of the texted him songs were also used in films made as all say until after his death: I love you (1996 ), 8 Mile (2002) or Surf's Up (2007). Magidson also worked with George Jessel and Ned Washington.

For his services as a songwriter, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1980.
