Herbert Bauch

Herbert Bauch ( born May 18, 1957 in Berlin ) is a retired German boxer. He won a bronze medal each in the light heavyweight division at the 1978 World Cup and the 1980 Olympic Games.

Career

The Berlin Herbert belly began as a teenager with the boxes. He was already successful at youth level and was a member of the TSC Berlin. 1975 joined the 1.82 meter tall athlete first appearance, when he defeated by TKO in the first round at a junior international fight against GDR Poland in Cottbus Grzegorz Skrzecz.

In 1976 he started for the first time at the East German Championship of seniors, but lost the age of 19 relatively inexperienced fighters against the experienced vice-champion Bernd Wittenburg from the SC Dynamo Berlin by termination in the 2nd round. In 1977 he was first DDR - middleweight champion with a points victory over Harald Büsch from SC Traktor Schwerin. At the European Championships in 1977 in Halle ( Saale), but he was not used because the association's management again trusted in Bernd Wittenburg.

1978 succeeded Herbert belly GDR to be champion in the light heavyweight division. He defeated while Peter Watzke from SC Traktor Schwerin on points (5-0 ). Following the resignation of Bernd Wittenburg and Ottomar axis of the end of 1977 but then he got a place at the 1978 World Cup in Belgrade. In the light heavyweight division he was doing excellent services and defeated the Americans by Martin Elmer demolition in the 1st round and Costica Chiracu from Romania on points. In the semifinals he met Tadija Kačar from Yugoslavia, he lost to in the cauldron of Belgrade on points. He thus won in his first start in an international championship bronze medal.

In 1979, he also launched at the European Championships in Cologne. He lost there but just his first fight in the second round against Kurt Seiler from the Federal Republic of Germany on points, and these quite defeat almost failed with 2:3 judges' votes. Prior to these European Championships Herbert belly had celebrated a great success in Chemistry Cup in Halle ( Saale). He defeated there, namely the semi-finals for the absolute world elite scoring Sixto Soria from Cuba on points and defeated in the final Michael Seefeldt from the GDR by termination in the 2nd round.

1980 Herbert belly was also used at the Olympic Games in Moscow. In the light heavyweight division he defeated there Bozhidar Ivanov from Bulgaria on points (5-0 ) and was KO - winner in the second round of Geoffrey Pike from Australia. He had reached the semi-finals and thus won an Olympic bronze medal. With this medal, it was then, because the semi-finals he lost to Slobodan Kacar from Yugoslavia by termination in the 2nd round.

From the year 1981, by Herbert stomach only a few results known. He was replaced in the GDR by Ralf Nebrig. From 1982, he appeared in no result on more, so must be assumed that Herbert abdominal end of 1981, although only 24 years old, his career ended. The reasons for this are not known.
