Herbert Buhtz

Herbert Buhtz ( born April 12, 1911 in Magdeburg, † June 7, 2006 in Berlin) was a German rowing athletes and Olympic silver medalist in the double sculls of 1932.

Life

Herbert Buhtz learned rowing at the rowing association Alt- Werder Magdeburg. As a straight 18- year-old he was, together with Gerhard von Düsterlho in Berlin German champion in double sculls. This title was the first German Champion title for a rowing club in Magdeburg. 1930 were both able to replicate this success.

Buhtz moved to Berlin Rowing Club ( BRC) and fought there in 1931 the German championship in One. In the Summer Olympics 1932 in Los Angeles erruderte Herbert Buhtz from Berlin Rowing Club (BRC ), together with his club mates Gerhard Boetzelen the silver medal in the double sculls. Originally coach Tom Sullivan Buhtz had not been nominated for the Olympic squad.

He was also European champion and vice - champion and rowed to a total of ten national championship titles. In 1931 he had his first of two wins in one's won the Henley Royal Regatta for the " Diamond Sculls " and had thus become internationally known.

Buhtz stepped up to the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin no longer and ended his athletic career in 1938.

After the end of World War II, the Doctor of Dental was the founding chairman of the re-establishment of the Berlin rowing clubs and the Berlin club regatta of 1881 (now LRV Berlin). In addition, he was also a successful coach at BRC, whose honor he was a member since 1958.
