Herbert Ernst Groh

Herbert Ernst Groh ( born May 27, 1906 in Lucerne, † July 28, 1982 in Norderstedt near Hamburg) was a Swiss tenor. His singing style was clearly oriented to the model of Richard Tauber.

Life

Groh studied singing in Milan, Zurich and Munich, and in 1927 made ​​his debut at the Theatre of Darmstadt. It was followed by engagements in Frankfurt and Cologne. Quick, radio was not aware of this singer, he first started at the transmitter Hamburg, Radio NORAG and was from 1933 when Germany transmitter under contract. As early as 1927 he made ​​in Italy first recordings under the name Ernesto Groh. 1930 was followed by an exclusive contract with the Berlin Lindström Group.

During the 2nd World War, he participated in the troop entertainment part and made recordings until 1944, from 1946 he toured with Robert Stolz by many European countries.

His operatic career lasted only about three years, his career as a record and radio singer lasted until the sixties. Its focus is, he devoted himself to the operetta and the upscale entertainment music. So he sang in 1965 the male lead in the directed by Franz Marszalek WDR production of the operetta " The Holland Bitch" by Emmerich Kálmán. He left to posterity about 400 recordings consisting of operatic arias, popular songs and operetta recordings.
