Herbert Girardet

Herbert Girardet ( * 1943 in Essen ) is a German writer and environmental activist living in Wales. The focus of his work is in particular the sustainable development of urban areas.

Life

After his schooling in boarding Birklehof Girardet went to study in Tübingen and Berlin, and finally in 1964 to London. There was a degree anthropology at the London School of Economics. As a result, Girardet directed documentaries on environmental issues for television and began writing books. Among his most important works is the book Far from the Garden of Eden, which was created in collaboration with the environmental activist John Seymour and was published in 1986.

2005 Girardet began in London together with the founder of the Right Livelihood Award, Jakob von Uexküll 's preparations for the World Future Council (WFC ), a charitable foundation. The WFC has the purpose to link the work of parliamentarians, academics and non-governmental organizations and to develop solutions for a sustainable world. Since the official launch in May 2007 in Hamburg Girardet is there program director.

In addition, Herbert Girardet is Chairman of the EF Schumacher Society, Honorary Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, Visiting Professor at the Universities of Northumbria and West of England, a member of the Board of Leopold Kohr Academy and patron of the Soil Association. He is married and has two sons.
