Herbert Gustave Schmalz

Herbert Gustave Schmalz, 1918 Herbert Carmichael ( born June 1, 1856 in Ryton, † November 24, 1935 in London) was a British painter, which is attributed to the Pre-Raphaelites.

He was the son of the German consul in Newcastle, Gustave Schmalz and his British wife, Margaret Carmichael, the eldest daughter of the painter John Wilson Carmichael. After the German defeat in 1918 he took his mother 's surname. Some of his works he signed with Angelico or Angelo.
