Herbert Hall Turner

Herbert Hall Turner ( born August 13, 1861 in Leeds, † August 20, 1930 in Stockholm) was a British astronomer and seismologist.

Turner worked for nine years as a senior assistant at the Royal Greenwich Observatory. In 1893 he took over the Savilian Chair of Astronomy at Oxford. In 1897 he was elected to the Royal Society.

He coined the term " parsec ".

In 1927 he was awarded the Bruce Medal.

The lunar crater Turner is named after him.
